What is Domino Logic?
Domino Logic is a free domino puzzle you can play online, right in your browser. You get a small board and a set of dominoes. Your job is to place every domino on the board. Each coloured zone has a rule, like "total 8" or "all the same". When every cell is covered and every rule is true, you win.
There is no luck and no guessing. Every puzzle here is built from a real solution and checked by a computer solver, so it can always be solved – and it has only one answer.
Domino puzzle rules
- Every domino must be used, and every cell must be covered.
- A domino covers two cells side by side – across or up and down.
- Each half shows 0 to 6 dots (called pips).
- A number (for example 9): the pips in that zone add up to exactly that number.
- =: every pip value in the zone is the same.
- ≠: every pip value in the zone is different.
- <N or >N: the zone total is below or above N.
- Cells with no colour have no rule. Any value can go there.
- One domino can touch two zones. Each half counts for its own zone.
How to use the buttons
- Tap a domino in the tray to pick it up. Tap it again to turn it.
- 🔄 Rotate turns the domino in your hand: across, down, and flipped.
- Tap a cell to drop the domino there. The first half goes on the cell you tapped.
- Tap a placed domino to lift it back into your hand.
- ↩ Undo takes back your last move. 💡 Hint puts one domino in its correct place. ⟲ Restart clears the board.
- Zone badges turn green when a full zone is right and red when it is wrong.
- Keyboard: arrow keys move, 1–9 pick a domino, R rotates, Enter places or lifts, U undoes, H gives a hint.
Daily Easy, Medium and Hard change every day at midnight. The 60 levels get harder step by step: 1–15 easy, 16–35 medium, 36–60 hard. Your progress and streak stay saved on this device.
What a domino puzzle does for your mind
- Logic: you use "if this, then that" thinking. If a zone says 0, both pips there must be blank – so which dominoes have a blank?
- Number sense: you add small numbers all the time and split totals into parts (8 = 6+2 or 5+3 or 4+4).
- Planning: one domino covers two zones, so every move changes two places at once. You learn to think one or two steps ahead.
- Focus: a puzzle takes a few calm minutes. It is a good break that pulls your attention away from your phone feed.
- Patience: wrong guesses are cheap here. Lift the domino and try again.
- A sense of achievement: a clean solve with no hints feels good, and a daily streak gives you a small goal.
What science says, honestly
In 2019, researchers at the University of Exeter and King's College London looked at about 19,000 healthy adults aged 50 to 93 in the online PROTECT study. People who said they did word or number puzzles more often scored better on tests of attention, reasoning and memory. But this is a link, not proof. The lead researcher, Dr Anne Corbett, said: "We can't say that playing these puzzles necessarily reduces the risk of dementia." Play because it is fun and keeps you thinking – not as a treatment.
Who is it for?
- Beginners and kids: Easy puzzles use only 4–5 dominoes. They are great for practising adding up.
- Daily players: three fresh puzzles every day and a streak counter.
- Experts: Hard puzzles have 8–9 dominoes and tricky zones that need real deduction.
- Older players: big tiles, no time pressure, no ads popping up mid-game, and a hint button when you are stuck.
Domino puzzle tips and strategy
- Start with the strongest clue. A zone total of 0 or 12 on two cells has only one answer (0+0 or 6+6).
- Look at one-cell zones. A single cell with a number tells you the exact pip value.
- Count your dominoes. Check which values you own. If only one domino has a 5, a zone that needs a 5 must use it.
- Use the "=" zones. Three equal cells need three halves with the same value – often from three different dominoes.
- Mind the shape. A cell with only one free neighbour must pair with that neighbour. Corners and dead ends decide a lot.
- Think of the total. All pips on the board add up to the pips on all your dominoes. That helps with "<" and ">" zones.
- Lift, don't restart. If a badge turns red, lift only the dominoes in that zone.
- Save hints for the end. Try for two minutes first – the "aha" moment is the fun part.
A short history of dominoes
Dominoes are old. The earliest known written mention comes from Song dynasty China, in a 13th-century text by Zhou Mi about the city of Hangzhou. The modern European style of dominoes appeared in France in the mid-18th century. A standard "double-six" set has 28 tiles, one for every pair from 0-0 to 6-6.
Fun fact: the name "domino" probably comes from a carnival costume – a black hooded robe worn with a white mask at the Venetian Carnival.
Fun fact 2: logic puzzles with dominoes became a daily habit for many people after The New York Times launched its own domino puzzle, Pips, on 18 August 2025. Domino Logic is SepoGames' own free version of the idea, with our own puzzles and design – it is not connected to that game.
Questions people ask
Is this domino puzzle free to play online?
Yes. Domino Logic is 100% free, runs in your browser, and needs no download or sign-up. Progress is saved on your device.
How do you play a domino logic puzzle?
Place every domino on the board so each cell is covered. Each coloured zone has a rule – an exact total, all equal (=), all different (≠), or a total below (<) or above (>) a number. When all rules are true, you win.
Does every puzzle have a solution?
Yes. Each puzzle is built from a real solution and then checked by a solver, so it is always solvable and has exactly one answer.
What does the ≠ sign mean?
≠ means every pip value inside that zone must be different. No two cells in the zone may show the same number.
Can one domino be in two zones?
Yes. Each half of a domino counts for the zone it sits in. Many puzzles depend on dominoes that cross zone borders.
Is a domino puzzle good for your brain?
It trains logic, adding up and planning ahead, and gives you a calm, focused break. Studies link regular puzzles with better test scores in older adults, but that is a link, not proof of any health effect.
When does the daily puzzle change?
Daily Easy, Medium and Hard change at midnight on your device. The 60 levels stay the same, so you can replay them anytime.
Can I print domino puzzles?
Yes. Download the free PDF with 6 domino puzzles and answers from this page or from the SepoGames downloads page.
