Breakout — free online brick breaker game

Bounce the ball off your paddle and smash every brick on the level. Catch the falling power-ups for a wider paddle, a slower ball or an extra life. Clear the bricks and the next level arrives with more of them. The arcade classic, rebuilt to be played with a thumb. Free, no download.

How to play

1. Slide your finger across the screen to move the paddle.
2. Tap to launch the ball.
3. Break every brick to clear the level. Some tougher bricks take two hits.
4. Catch a falling letter: W widens the paddle, S slows the ball, + gives an extra life.
5. You get three lives, plus one more each time you clear a level.

Tips

• Where the ball hits the paddle sets the angle. The edges send it out steeply, the middle sends it straight.
• Aim for a gap up the side — a ball loose above the bricks clears half a level on its own.
• Move to where the ball will be, not to where it is now.
• Catching the S power-up when the ball is fast is often worth more than a wider paddle.
